Chapo, I understand that someone has uploaded my bhop maps for Half-Life, I have made some updates to it the name remains the same but I have changed the design of the old bhop_skill maps the old one can still be available as bhop_skill_old while the new one will be bhop_skill. Could you check and update the changes so people can download the old and the new maps, thanks.

bhop_assault & bhop_assault_old are the same now. Other 2 maps were approved.

But you should not use the same name for different maps even if you update them later. Otherwise players who has an old version could not play on server with new one without manual deleting old map. Consider to use prefix '_beta' or '_b1', '_b2', etc fo

Sorry about the forum duplicates, I was wondering why it wasnt created in the first place. About the maps I don't want to end up having a situation where people have 20 of the same maps which is why the new assault was going to be the new bhop_assault and the old one as bhop_assault_old that way people dont have duplicates of the same map.

I dont want to call the new map as bhop_assault_new because what happens if i decide to update it later on and what am i going to call it? which is why replacing the existing map would be a better idea in some cases.

bhop_assault and bhop_assault_old the two maps should be treated differently, I don't know why they are the same maps, put my new design as bhop_assault and the old one as bhop_assault_old and when I do make an update i can shift the older design as bhop_assault_old2 and so on its better than bhop_assault_final1,2,3 etc and people will end up having 20 of the same maps.

I know what you mean by unique names, but I wanted to make my maps to be as standard as what game developers do when they make their maps. Anything updated will be called what it originally is but as for the older versions they will need to get renamed or trashed which is what they generally do and I seem to follow that pattern.

What drove me to get into developers habits is that demand was the issue from Half-Life players, not only they want new maps but also maps looking nice and appealing to them which I find it a challenge. So calling the new maps the original names was a better idea than naming it something else so people can refer to the original name and regardless of updates they can see what the map is all about.

But that is my method of making maps I follow the game developers methods and I can see why they do it this way like what I am doing to my maps with naming. I am not generally happy with the initial releases as there could be problems well after development that needs fixing I am counting on that to happen.

As safty says its best to use a b1 b2 ect naming scheme until you have the map finished or people will get the "map differs" error. Developers do this as well smiley

That's what I do for the initial development, but subsequent updates will need to be named something else until the updates are finished and will retain the original name with updated features. I do understand game developers make mistakes but they are trying to offer latest content which everyone would be happy with.
